
How can Art can therapist help?
Art psychotherapy can help children, young people and adults with a broad range of difficulties by get to know themselves better, making them feel more able to face what is happening or has happened in their lives.
Art psychotherapy offers a containing supportive space when words might seem too painful.
The individual does not need to be good at art, or have any artistic experience.
Feelings and traumatic events can sometimes be hard to put into words. The art psychotherapies offers a safe place to explore difficult thoughts, emotions ideas and experiences through the use of art materials.
Art Therapy does not seek to directly interpret artwork, but works together with the patient to explore and understand it. Clients are encouraged to tell their own stories at their own pace, thinking about changes they would like to see in their lives
Art Therapist work with people on an individual basis and in groups. The therapist will consult with the individual or the referrer to help decide on the form of art therapy that is most appropriate.
